Gunners stay up

Arsenal left it late at the Emirates against Cardiff City with goals from Nicklas Bendtner and Theo Walcott ensuring the league leaders climb back to top the log on new year’s day with a 2 – 0 victory after Manchester City had briefly stayed up. The Gunners who showed a tired display after a congested round of 3 games in a week got a boost from substitute Nicklas Bendtner’s goal on the 88th minute after replacing German machine Lukas Podolski. There were wins for title rivals Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea as the title race stretches on.

Manchester United began their 2014 run with a 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at the Old Trafford, their forth defeat at home and sixth in the league putting them 11 points off the league leaders and seventh position behind Spurs at sixth. Adebayor and Christian Eriksen had put Spurs ahead before Danny Welbeck pulled one back for the red devils.

At the bottom of the league, Fulham won 2-1 against 10-man West Ham United who stay second-bottom above Sunderland who lost to Aston Villa 1-0. Crystal Palace are 18th after  a 1-1 draw with Norwich City.
