Martinez Axed

Everton last Thursday parted ways with their manager Roberto Martinez after a poor season. The departure ends a three year reign of Martinez who joined the club in 2013/2014 season guiding the Toffees to a 5th place finish in the league in his first year averaging 1.6 goals per game and a 1.0 goals conceded per game with a win ratio of 55.3%. The Spanish manager ended his tenure at the Merseyside with 1.6 goals per game, 1.4 goals conceded per game and a win ratio of 26.5%.

Roberto Martinez
Everton Football Club had issued a statement explaining their regrets and also gave thanks to the former handler for his dedication and commitment to work at the club.

In the statement, Everton Football Club stated “Roberto has been a great ambassador for the club, conducting himself at all times with the utmost integrity and dignity”. And further acknowledged he secured the club its highest league point total, a place in the last 16 of the Europa League and appearances in both domestic cup semis.

The 42 year old had made impact in the attack line of the Toffees with the force of the likes of Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku but it’s the defense that they have suffered most which leaves them 12th in the league with 44 points. With a miserable record for fewest home points in a season, records show Everton has dropped 18 points from a winning position this season.

The Spaniard later expressed his gratitude towards the chairman who understood and supported his vision and also for the privilege of becoming an Evertonian. Martinez offered his sincere thanks to the players and staff at the club.

He added: "I appreciate that over the last eight weeks our league results haven't been up to the levels that we would expect. However, over the past three years the support the fans have given to me and the team has been inspiring.

Everton ended the campaign with a 3 nil victory over already relegated Norwich City on Sunday and moved up the table to 11 points to equal last term table finish.
